Whats wrong with my boyfand hand?

Hiya well basically last night my boyfriend and i where pulling apart an old armchair so we could put outside so bin men can collect it, we used pliers, screwdrivers and our own strength to pull the material off and after it was done my boyfriend couldnt open his hand and when he foced himself to do so his knuckles turned white also his whole of his right hand has swollen big time and also hes noticed some stiffness on his arm too, first thing i did was get ice cubes and wrap them in a kitchen towel so he could stop the swelling didnt work and when we woke up i asked if it was any better but he said no and his fingers are double the size we have also noticed theres a darkish like bruising on the inside of his palm just under where his thumb is i told him to just forget the material on the arm chair and fling it out as it is buts hes a stubborn man and didnt listen now he wants to do the sofa! he is right handed also i have told him not to drive as clenching his fist is hard for him do u think its a bruised hand? or pulled muscle, or anything else and what else can i do to help him hes taken two paracetamol but i remember i had extremely strong painkiller that he can take hes stubborn and wont see a dr about anything for ages hes been breathing bad and after 5 months of me begging him to see a dr, i eventually had to call for an ambulance! and he was put on a nebuliser and was told he has asthma stubborn man he is lol
