My kitten 8 weeks, my staff bull terr 9yrs,?

can my staff and kitty be friends, the kitty keeps chasing my staff,im worrying. im fussing my dog ( suggs) so he doesnt feel left out, and the kitty( garfeild) seems to have no fear that suggs is tons bigger then him...im watching from afar,my suggs stands tall tail wags but is stiff, he sniffs the kittys bits then they seems to play cat and mouse doing this over and over..............COULD THEY BE FRIENDS AND JUST PLAYING................................a… no i shant leave them completly alone,,
