If all of the people who gather in a place of worship on a weekly basis got together and spent their time?

doing charitable work instead, wouldn't that be more productive, and more helpful and useful to society in general than wasting time saying prayers to something which doesn't exist in the hope that it acknowledges you wasted your time in this way and rewards you for it?
