Why do we celebrate "CHRISTmas" on the same day that ancient people celebrated the winter solstice?

B/c the Cahtolics would do anything to convert the Pagans. They basically said "Okay, you worship your God on this day? Well, us too I guess! Why don't you just say you're worshiping our God, and not change all your rituals and days and everything! How easy!"
